Co-production of the city and collective property: the case of the Technical Assistance project for Social Housing in the locality of Chácara do Catumbi (Rio de Janeiro)
Abstract
This article aims to analyze the case of the Technical Assistance for Housing of Social Interest (ATHIS, in Portuguese) project in the Chácara do Catumbi locality within the city of Rio de Janeiro. The technical assistance project was funded by the Council of Architecture and Urbanism of Rio de Janeiro (CAU-RJ) and was carried out in the first semester of 2019. The paper focuses on analyzing the project’s implementation, with an emphasis on the participatory process. From Urban Sociology, the proposed methodology is qualitative and involves using documentary sources from the ATHIS project archive, as well as conducting semi-structured interviews with the technical teams involved and residents during the year of 2022. In analyzing the technical assistance project, a co-production of knowledge is identified that articulates technical, academic and residents' knowledge. Likewise, it is identified that popular spaces are influenced by different conceptions of the city. The article concludes that reconciling collective forms of land management with the economic value of housing poses a challenge to guarantee the right to housing.Downloads
