With the aim of contributing to urban studies, this paper explores the role of the notion of children's welfare in the process of residential choice. From a bourdean perspective, it is proposed that the acquisition of housing by residents of a private club-type gated community in the parish of Pomasqui in the Metropolitan District of Quito (DMQ) is immersed in the constitution of distinctive lifestyles. Thanks to the ethnographic approach, the results of the research indicate that the residential choice is based on the bet on a lifestyle constituted by imbricated elements: the living space as a place of construction of the social bond and security as an important factor of distinction. We propose that, in these intertwined elements, the notion of childhood and its welfare emerges as a factor that enables and drives the the residents' housing project of the gated community 'Nuevo Amanecer'.Downloads
