Focus and Scope

Quid 16 is an academic journal from the Área de Estudios Urbanos (Urban Studies Area) of the Instituto de Investigaciones Gino Germani, Facultad de Ciencias Sociales, Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina). Published biannually and peer-reviewed internationally, its aim is to promote research on urban, environmental, and territorial problems from a multidisciplinary perspective. While the journal gives special attention to works addressing these phenomena in the global south, it is open to studies about different regional realities worldwide, especially those offering a comparative perspective between regional contexts.

The journal aims to be a space for debate on research exploring urban and environmental dynamics, both from empirical and theoretical approaches. It promotes a broad perspective, fostering dialogue and the convergence of research from various disciplinary fields, theoretical perspectives, and methodological approaches.

Quid 16 publishes original and unpublished articles in Spanish, Portuguese, or English that contribute substantially, either theoretically or empirically, to the understanding of urban and environmental phenomena .

The administrative and scientific organisation of Quid 16 is managed by the internal Editorial Team from the Área de Estudios Urbanos (Urban Studies Area), responsible for the management, administration and editing of the journal. Additionally, the academic content is supported by an Editorial Board, composed of specialists in the journal's thematic areas, which participates in editorial policy decisions. Finally, the permanent International Scientific Committee, made up of renowned scientific experts from regional and international contexts, is in charge of ensuring the scientific quality of the published materials.

The journal follows a Diamond Open Access policy, allowing inmediatlly free access to the full content of all articles through the various repositories and databases where the journal is included (no-paywall). In addition, the submission and publication of articles is free of fees, and there is no article processing charge (no-APC).

Peer Review Process

SELECTION PROCEDURES OF ARTICLES FOR PUBLICATION

Regarding received manuscripts, a first selection will be made by the editorial committee, which will evaluate pertinence and quality. In less than a month, the committee will submit to the author a confirmation of reception of his work, and within the maximum period of one month, will inform the rejection of those articles that in their consideration do not meet the necessary criteria to continue with their evaluation process.

Once this first screening has passed, a new one will begin. The manuscripts will be submitted to a minimum of two external evaluators (locals, national or international), who are experts in their fields, for their review under a double blind system. These reviewers, using a form of evaluation provided by the Magazine, will have 30 days for the completion of that task. Should a contradiction exist between both reviews, a third review will be called upon (by submitting a new form of re-evaluation) which will have the same amount of time available, and will be regarded as final. The conclusion can be accepted, accepted with suggestions, accepted with substantial modifications or be rejected. The whole process will remain secret and no information whatsoever will be provided about it. Once the evaluations by the consultant parties are emitted, the authors will be notified, and will have to hand a final version with the requested corrections under a period of three weeks. 

The reviewers will verify those corrections made, or otherwise the task may fall to the Editorial Committee who will verify the final version based on the reports provided and will inform the authors about the new results, as well the publication of their work.

The accepted collaborations will submit to a style correction and their publication will be subjected to the availability of space in each edition. Should those articles sent to the DOSSIER section which were positively reviewed exceed the space available, the Editorial Committee withholds the right to  determine with of those collaborations fit best with the parameters determined by the call for submissions, and the rest will be considered for the ESPACIO ABIERTO sections of future editions. In every case, the Committee decisions are final.

Only original and unpublished Works in Spanish and/or Portuguese will be considered. 

Annually the magazine publishes its last and new number, in the month of November.

Open Access Policy

With an aim towards the divulgation of research and to facilitate the global exchange of knowledge, this Magazine provides open and free access to all the articles (submission and publication is also free) since 2011, in order to be used for research, educational and non-commercial purposes in general.
