Author Guidelines

It is necessary to be registered in order to be able to submit papers and to check their status.

Contributions are received in Spanish, Portuguese and English, which have to be of a maximum of 10 thousand words. The title and abstract must be written in the language of the paper and in English, and they may not be of more than 300 words. Any reference to the identity of the author should be deleted from the submitted article (see Author Guidelines).

The papers that do not comply with the Author Guidelines detailed in this section, will be returned without being subjected to evaluation. Only once the author has met the Journal’s requirements, the paper will be sent to be reviewed.

1. GENERAL PRESENTATION OF THE PAPER

The extension article should range between 8 and 12 pages (a maximum of 10 thousand words) including images, if any.

Format A4.

Left margin: 3 cm from the right, top and bottom margins of 2.5 cm.

Normal text style (this is selected in the window to the left of the toolbar or in the Format menu).

Line spacing: simple.

Indentation of the first line of each paragraph using “tab”, not by pressing “space” multiple times.

The file will be named after the title of the paper and the .doc format will be used (MS Word versions 2007 to 2016).

Please include in a different file your personal data: name, address, postal code, telephone, e-mail and a short biographical note of no more than 5 lines, referring to education, academic institution, academic activity and publications.

2. THE PAPER SHOULD BE ORGANIZED AS FOLLOWS:

Title of the paper: no more than 60 characters.

Blank line.

Title of the paper in English.

Three blank lines.

Abstract in Spanish of no more than 10 lines (300 words).

Blank line.

Keywords in Spanish: three to five separated by commas.

Abstract in English.

Blank line.

Keywords in English: three to five separated by commas.

Two blank lines.

After the end of the text:

Interval of five interlines.

Bibliographic references.

3. TYPOGRAPHY

Title: Times New Roman size 12 bold.

Subtitles: Times New Roman size 11 bold.

Summary, keywords and biographical note: Times New Roman size 10.

Text of the article: Times New Roman size 11.

Footnotes: Times New Roman size 10.

4. EMPHASIS

Italics will be used to emphasize words or phrases within the text instead of quotation marks, bold format or underlining.

5. CITATION

The Author-Date citation system will be used according to APA standards (American Psychological Association).

For textual or direct quotes double quotation marks must be used; and single quotation marks are to be used for a quote within another and for translated words:

5.1. When the quote is in the body of the text - less than forty words - the number of pages will be indicated after the year of publication and a colon.

(Sicard, 1998: 124-128) or “Sicard (1933: 264) desarrolló la idea de dispositivo…”

Include the complete data: (Gombrich, 1959: 149-152), without deleting digits, for example 149-52. Do not include the original publication date of the cited work between brackets, but only in the bibliographical references section as indicated in subsection 7.1.

5.1.1. For multiple references

(Gombrich, 1974, 1988a, 1988b, 1992)

5.1.2. To cite the volume number

(Genette, 1997, 1: 147)

5.1.3. For three authors

5.1.5. For four or more authors, please quote all names in the references at the end of the paper

5.2. If the quote is more than 40 words long, it should be written in a separate paragraph, without quotation marks and with an indentation of 5 spaces:

     En el caso de los autotunes, esto ocurre cuando la canción es despojada del video y es interpretada en directo, o en videoclips, en versiones y 
     arreglos tanto espontáneos y amateurs, como en trabajos más profesionales. El proceso supone, en muchos casos, que el dispositivo

5.3. For newspapers, magazines, web pages, blogs, Facebook posts, Twitter and Youtube videos

Keep always the same format (Author, Year). Then put in each case the bibliographical references as detailed below.

5.4. For article of a law / decree

5.5 For secondary sources

Use only in cases of unavailable works that could not be accessed directly.

Put in the text the name of the original work with the secondary indication and source in the list of bibliographic references.

Lévi-Strauss, quoted by Verón, states: "En lugar de oponer magia y ciencia, sería mejor ponerlas en paralelo, como dos modos de conocimiento, diferentes en cuanto a los resultados teóricos y prácticos (…) pero no por el género de operaciones mentales que ambas suponen"(2013: 81).

Or:

In 1962, Levi-Strauss, quoted by Verón, wrote: "En lugar de oponer magia y ciencia…"(2013: 81).

In the bibliographical references:

5.6. For elided fragments

Use three dots in between parentheses (...) only within the quote. Do not include them at the beginning or at the end of the quote.

5.7. For appointment without author or date

If the author's name is missing, use n / a; and n.d. if the date is missing.

Clarification: the APA standards do not allow the use of op. cit., ibid or ibidem. The quote will be repeated when necessary.

6. FOOTNOTES

They will be used for explanatory sentences or paragraphs that expand the information provided in the text. They will not be used for bibliographic references. They will be numbered consecutively throughout the article by means of a supra-index (footnote) and inserted at the bottom of each page.

7. REFERENCES

7.1. Books

Include the publication date between parentheses and the original publication date at the end of the reference if it is not a first edition.

Gombrich, E. (1997). Arte e ilusión. Madrid: Debate, 1959.

When more than one text by the same author is cited, the author’s name should not be repeated; instead, place a dash "–" before the year of edition (letters can be added in alphabetical order if there is more than one reference for a given year).

Use abbreviations to indicate the editor, director, coordinator or others:

Name all authors:

7.4. Conference papers

If the proceedings have been published as a book, use the same format as book or book chapter. If they have been published in journals, use the same format as journal, whether printed or electronic.

No words will be divided at the end of the line.

9. FIGURES, ILLUSTRATIONS, TABLES

The figures and tables must be inserted in the corresponding place of the text and must be numbered and identified according to the name referred to in the article.

If the material is taken from a protected source, a note must credit the original author and the owner of the copyright. For this, a written authorization must be obtained from the rights holder in order to be able to reproduce the material.

10. IMAGE FILES

Graphics included in the article should be sent in separate files (one file for each image) in .jpg format. The image has to be at least 1500 pixels on its largest side and of a 300 dpi resolution. Please check with us before uploading images smaller than this.

11. ORIGINALITY

Authors must submit material that has not been previously published. Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City does not allow papers in the process of evaluation to be published, either in print or online, nor to be submitted before another journal for publication consideration.

12. AUTHOR INFORMATION

In order to ensure that the paper’s evaluation is anonymous, the authors’ name has to be removed from the file that is submitted. If the author is cited, "Author", instead of the author's name, should be used both in the bibliography and the footnotes. The author's name has also to be removed from the document's Properties.

Instructions for Microsoft Word 2010 (Windows):

• Select the "Prepare to share" option (from the File menu).
• Select the "inspect document" option.
• Check only the "Document Properties and Personal Information" box.
• Execute the inspection.
• If personal information is found, the "Remove All" option will appear and you will have to click on it to remove all data from the file properties.
