En ultimísima instancia: actualidad de la determinación por la economía frente al embate posmarxista. Louis Althusser crítico de Ernesto Laclau

Resumen

Desde la década de los ochenta en adelante, distintos autores referenciados con el pensamiento político posfundacional han esbozado una serie de objeciones a la teoría marxista, en especial a sus elementos considerados como esencialistas. Dichas objeciones, sin embargo, han involucrado frecuentemente un reduccionismo de su adversario teórico. Este trabajo se centra en las debilidades de la crítica de Ernesto Laclau a la obra de Louis Althusser, particularmente al concepto de determinación en última instancia por la economía. Se sostendrá que dicha crítica supone una simplificación del argumento althusseriano, lo cual impide la inteligibilidad de las relaciones entre las distintas instancias implicadas en una totalidad complejamente estructurada. A la vez, se argumentará que es a partir del concepto de sobredeterminación en su relación con la determinación en última instancia que se hace posible comprender la operatividad de las distintas contradicciones en juego, sin necesidad de apelar a ningún tipo de economicismo o mecanicismo. Para ello, se analizarán los textos de Althusser en los términos de un posestructuralismo avant la lettre, que no renuncia, sin embargo, a una teoría materialista de la historia.

In the very last instance: present of the determination by the economy before the post-marxist onslaught. Louis Althusser critic of Ernesto Laclau

Abstract

From the eighties onwards, different authors referenced with post-foundational political thought have outlined a series of objections to Marxist theory, especially to the elements they considered as essentialist. Those objections, however, have frequently involved a reductionism of their theoretical adversary. This paper focuses on the weaknesses of Ernesto Laclau's critique of the work of Louis Althusser, particularly on the concept of determination in the last instance by the economy. We will state that this criticism supposes a simplification of the Althusserian argument that prevents the intelligibility of the relationships between the different instances involved in a complexly structured totality. At the same time, it will be argued that it is the concept of overdetermination in its relationship with the determination in the last instance that allows the understanding of the operation of the different contradictions at stake, without the need to appeal to any type of economism or mechanism. To do this, Althusser's texts will be analysed in terms of a post-structuralism avant-la-lettre, which does not renounce, however, a materialist theory of history.
