Abstract

The Argentine State enforces the rights of children through
various regulations. While one of the most visible rights is
education, we must not forget about the right to play, practice
sports, physical activities and cultural activities, and the
access to information. Little is known about the exercise of
these rights outside of the school environment. It is
conjectured that full-time schools offer more extracurricular
activities and foster these rights better than single shift
schools. It is true that although the National Education Law
promotes an extended school day, this only reaches a
minority of children. How do these children spend their free
time outside of school, and more specifically, those who
attend single day schools? School time and the many
opportunities to play, practice sports and arts, experience new
technologies are fragmented in urban Argentina.
