Abstract

Born as a web sitcom, According to Roxi is a transmedia narrative that unfolds the story of a politically incorrect mom with whom a considerable amount of followers are identified. This paper, within discourse analysis, identifies and characterizes the maternal ethos that emerges in According to Roxi’s blog content: the ethos of the liberal mom. As a media representation of motherhood, the liberal mommy forms a stereotype that puts a strain on the characteristics of the mother archetype established in mass media during the twentieth century, while at the same time it parodies ideals and demands of an identity related to contemporary liberal motherhood.
