Abstract
The essay anecdotically surveys the variety of styles of street-crossing. It analyzes this fundamental act of urban everyday life in the framework of the semiotics of PEIRCE, GREIMAS, and LOTMAN. It reflects on the concept of “smart city”. It formulates a criterion to measure urban intelligence. It outlines the role of media in the creation of “intelligent cities”.
