“The mother’s day photos”: confinement as motif

Abstract

This article is an analytical approach on the meanings produced by young people about their confinement experience in a Closed Center in the province of Buenos Aires, where they comply with judicial measures of deprivation of liberty within criminal proceedings. Under the assumptions of the theory of discourses proposed by Verón, articulated with an oblique reading of Deleuze, the article enquires about the conditions of possibility of an analysis of confinement as a motive (Segre, 1985) in posters generated as a gift for the mother’s day, based on the creation of a “self-portrait” with a message addressed to their mother or the mother of their children. At the same time, it attempts to locate certain conceptual drifts that can contribute to the analysis of gestures based on the idea of “corporal techniques” set forth by Mauss and recovered by Le Breton (2008).
