Abstract

This paper analyzes photographic pictures that are taken and sent in real time using smartphones. Among the wide range of such images, this work focuses on two recurrent patterns: selfies and food pictures. The work particularly describes the enunciative scenes that take place within each type of image. In the conclusions, the real time concept is discussed (in comparison to live), as well as Barthes’ noema, which is affected by this usage. These pictures seem not to build a “having-been-there” quality but a “being-there” one, where present time seems to emerge from these images.
