Loving technical images

Abstract

Taking as a starting point Benjamin’s political foundation of the technical means of image reproduction, we will propose a critical lecture of technoculture. Art can’t be considered as activism if it doesn’t work with technical images rather than against them. We agree with Foucault and also with Deleuze and Guattari concerning the fact that art should distort images and discourses, taking into account the technical devices they are caught in. We will also analyze two examples of artistic interventions that will illuminate our thesis: the manifesto “A mass media art” (Jacoby, Escari & Costa) and the film The inextinguishable fire (Farocki).
