Music in the beginning of Argentinian sound film

Abstract

The birth of Argentinian sound film in 1933 matches the beginning of the film industry formed by the early stages of the studio system which cemented the institutional mode of representation or classic cinema. This article starts from a general description of the transition from American silent film to sound film which instances paved the way for Argentinian productions, including a tour through the chronology of technical devices and their bonds with the social and productive context of the time. This context is where the analysis of the sound characteristics of the first two Argentinian films of this period, Tango! and Los tres berretines is situated, and the musical treatment of this films allows us to explain the spirit of the time, the conditions of production of meaning in cinema.
