Focus and Scope

Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City (L.I.S.) is a semi-annual publication that follows a blind peer review process, under the commitment of a Scientific Committee composed by professors from different academic units in Argentina and abroad. Its objective is the diffusion of the theoretical and research production belonging to the field of Social Sciences applied to understanding the complex constructive bonds that exist between the notion of city and the media. It aims to encourage exchanges between authors and readers of the national and international academic field.

L.I.S. presents unpublished articles in Spanish, English and Portuguese, consisting on research results, theoretical reflections and reviews, which contribute to relevant debates in the fields of sociosemiotics, communication sciences, cultural studies, anthropology, history and sociology. The texts present results based on empirical research or reflections on specific topics regarding the relationship between city, social space and mediatizations; the papers in which there are exemplifications and presentations of cases are privileged by the Journal. The presentation of articles by young researchers who participate in validated research projects and current social issues is encouraged.

L.I.S. is a publication of the Communication Sciences Career of the Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Buenos Aires, and its edition is possible thanks to the Secretariat of Science and Technology of the University of Buenos Aires.

Peer Review Process

When an article is sent to the Journal, its reception is immediately acknowledged and the Editorial Team proceeds to check whether it complies with the basic requirements (citation and formal presentation guidelines), as well as its relevance for a Social Sciences publication (objective, theoretical framework, methodology, conclusions and bibliography). Later, the papers that pass this first evaluation instance are submitted to two (2) external reviewers.

During the evaluation process, both the names of the authors and those of the reviewers are kept anonymous (double blind) and the results of the evaluation are reported within a maximum period of 4 months; in case this time is exceeded the Journal gets in touch with the authors. The final decision whether to publish or reject the article is communicated by a written notification to the author by one of the Editorial Team members. There are four possible results and they are all unappealable: publishable without changes, publishable with minor corrections (the final evaluation depends on the editor), publishable with substantive corrections (in which case it has to be evaluated again) and not publishable. If there are conflicting resolutions by the reviewers (e.g. publishable with brief corrections and not publishable), the article will be submitted to a third reviewer to make the final decision.

The authors must implement the adjustments requested by the reviewers and the Editorial Team within the indicated period. The Journal has the last saying on the publication of the papers and the issue in which they are to be included, which depends on the compliance with the delivery of the requested documentation.

During the editing process, the authors can be consulted by the Editorial Team. However, the Journal has the faculty to make minor style corrections.

Publication Frequency

Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City (L.I.S.) is a semi-annual journal: issues are published in June and December. Reception dates are informed in each call for papers, which are published on the Journal’s website (revistalis.com.ar).

Open Access Policy

This magazine provides free access to all the issues published in the printed edition, under the principle of making the research freely available to the public, which encourages a greater exchange of global knowledge. Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City (L.I.S.) does not charge authors for the handling of the papers or any other aspect of the editorial process.

Ethical norms

Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City is committed to respecting and complying with the Code of Conduct and Best Practices guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) at all stages of the publication process. Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City is indexed based on the criteria for editorial quality established by the LATINDEX Catalog, Dialnet, REDIB and ERIH PLUS.

The authors of the accepted papers authorize Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City (L.I.S.) to use the patrimonial rights of the article (reproduction, public communication, transformation and distribution), and to include the article in the Journal (electronic and printed version). Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City (L.I.S.) is committed to allow a broad access to what is published.

In case an article published by Letter. Image. Sound. Mediatized City (L.I.S.) is to be included in another journal, the reference to the original publication must be clearly indicated.

The authors receive two copies of the printed issue in which their papers are published.

The Journal submits all articles to plagiarism detection tools. When plagiarism is detected, whether in full or partially -without the corresponding citation-, the text will not be reviewed and the authors will be notified of the reason for the rejection.

To encourage diversity, except for strict editorial quality policy reasons, articles by the same author are not published within a two year period.
