La mediatización de la política como amenaza al sistema democrático: una aproximación crítica basada en el estado actual de la investigación

Resumen

Desde una perspectiva que combina la semiótica social con la teoría política, el artículo presenta y problematiza el fenómeno de la mediatización del campo político, un proceso complejo y multidimensional, asociado a la modernización, que, durante las últimas cuatro décadas, ha despertado el interés de investigadores tanto en América Latina como en Europa. En el artículo se presenta en términos generales el fenómeno de la mediatización y sus distintas conceptualizaciones teóricas, para luego circunscribirlo al campo de la política y pensar sus efectos en él, con el fin de señalar algunas de sus dinámicas características que hacen de él una patología social y, por lo tanto, una amenaza al sistema democrático.

Mediatization of Politics as A Threat to the Democratic System: A Critical Approach Based on the Current State of Research.

Abstract

From a perspective that combines social semiotics and political theory, this article presents and discusses the phenomenon of mediatization of the political field. This is a complex and multidimensional process linked to modernization that, during the last four decades, has been of interest for researchers both in Latin America and in Europe. The article presents in general terms the phenomenon of mediatization and its multiple conceptualizations, so that subsequently it can be circumscribed to the political field and study its effects. Finally, some of its defining features are studied to argue why it is a social pathology and, hence, a threat to the democratic system.
