Abstract

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina, there was a period of isolation in which the police system was the main guarantor. At the same time, media consumption grew, and the media assumed a central role in the transmission of information. In this article, we surveyed cases of police violence in four local media in El Gran La Plata area, analysing the degree of visibility and the type of media treatment of cases of police abuse and violence during the first year of the pandemic. This analysis led us to delve deeper into three issues linked to the ways of telling the facts and presenting the news: the actors involved, the presentation of the victims, and the use of images.

Violence. Pandemic. Policemen. Media
