Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the emotional competences of the university professor in the classrooms of the University Institute of Technology of Cabimas in Venezuela. To fulfill the objective of this research, the theoretical bases of the authors Bedoya and García (2016), Bisquerra (2003, 2007, 2008), Goleman (1999), Hernández (2017) were studied. The methodology used was under the positivist, non-experimental, transectional descriptive and field research paradigm. The population consisted of 1096 students with a sample of 293. As a tool for data collection, a questionnaire was prepared using the 15-item Likert-type response categories, validated by seven experts in the area. The reliability of the instrument was determined by Cronbach's Alpha method, presenting a 0.96 of reliability. The results of the investigation show the absence of the emotional competencies of emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and life skills and well-being; and the presence of personal autonomy (self-management) and interpersonal intelligence in teachers.
