A militarização no subimperialismo brasileiro: a continuidade do Brasil Potência.

Abstract

This article discusses militarization in the social formation of Brazil, demonstrating how the role of the ar
med forces has been historically modified to meet the needs of different regimes of capital reproduction and 
accumulation. We revisit important concepts and debates developed by Marxist Dependency Theory, such 
as the dependent state, the doctrine of national security, the counterinsurgency state, and sub-imperialism, to assert the relationship between the processes of capital reproduction and accumulation and militarization as two sides of the same Brazilian sub-imperialist coin. We conclude with a discussion of violence as a necessary weapon, both to guarantee the economic conditions of super-exploitation of the workforce and to guarantee the extra-economic conditions (political, cultural, military, and geopolitical) necessary for the Brazilian development project, the “Brasil Potência” (Brazil as a Regional Power) project.
