La “colonización militar” de Estados Unidos en América Latina y el Caribe.

Abstract

The historic intervention of the United States in Latin America and the Caribbean, in its different dimensions, is a categorical fact. However, when it comes to the military sphere, there are criteria that lead us to affirm that what has existed and continues to exist is a continuous process of “military colonization.” The objective of the article is to contribute, based on the reflections of Enrique Dussel, Aníbal Quijano, and Pablo González Casanova, to the construction of an embryonic concept of this process, to describe its different phases in light of the history of the 20th century and what has elapsed of the 21st, as well as its main mechanisms of consolidation. It is observed that the Latin American armed forces, to a greater or lesser extent, are a key instrument of hegemonic power in the service of global capitalism, with disastrous consequences for sovereignty, democracy, and military institutionalism in the region.
