Este artículo reivindica los valores y principios del cooperativismo en tiempos de crueldad neoliberal e individualismo anarco-libertario por los cuales atraviesan muchos países latinoamericanos, entre los cuales se incluye Argentina. Intenta responder a las preguntas ¿cuál es la genealogía, caracterización y trayectoria histórica del cooperativismo en Europa, en América Latina y el Caribe y en Argentina?, ¿cuáles son los contextos que permiten identificar distintos momentos en esta trayectoria histórica?, ¿cuáles son las crisis por las cuales atraviesa el cooperativismo?, ¿cuáles son las formas básicas actuales de cooperativismo? y ¿cuál es la importancia y la vigencia actual del cooperativismo como alternativa al capitalismo? Como hipótesis de trabajo se sostiene que el cooperativismo, como sistema económico-social y propuesta axiológica ético-política basada en la solidaridad y la justicia social, se opone al capitalismo -en sus distintas formas- como realización histórica tanto del liberalismo como del neoliberalismo. El artículo se compone de seis apartados que abordan, respectivamente, los orígenes y desarrollo del cooperativismo, las teorías y estudios, las crisis, el cooperativismo latinoamericano, el cooperativismo argentino y la relación entre el Estado y el cooperativismo.

Summary

This article focuses on the need to reclaim the values and principles of cooperativism in times of neoliberal cruelty and anarcho-libertarian individualism that many Latin American countries are experiencing, including Argentina. It attempts to answer the following questions: What is the genealogy, characterisation and historical trajectory of cooperativism in Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and Argentina? What are the contexts that allow us to identify different moments in this historical trajectory? What are the crises that cooperativism is currently experiencing? What are the basic forms of cooperativism today?
And what is the importance and current relevance of cooperativism as an alternative to capitalism? The working hypothesis is that cooperativism, as an economic and social system and an axiological, ethical and political proposal based on solidarity and social justice, is opposed to capitalism—in its various forms—as the historical realisation of both liberalism and neoliberalism. The article consists of six sections that covers the origins and development of cooperativism, the theories and studies, the crises,
the Latin American cooperativism, the Argentine cooperativism and the relationship between State and cooperativism.
