CACEROLAZOS ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB.
EXPLORATIONS OF PROTEST REPERTOIRES DURING THE EARLY WEB IN ARGENTINA (2001–2002)
This article analyzes the emergence of websites associated with the cacerolazos (pot-banging protests) in Argentina during the 2001-2002 crisis, exploring how the “new medium” was imagined and used amid political, social, and economic collapse. Drawing on a corpus of web archives preserved in the Internet Archive, interviews, and journalistic sources, the study examines the political and technological imaginaries present on these pages, as well as the repertoires of political action mediated by web elements. It investigates interface design, forms of citizen participation, and the configuration of a “web sphere” of protest before the popularization of social networks. This research contributes to the history of the early web in Argentina by treating “digitally reborn archives” as historical sources, and to the history of digital activism.
