RELATIONS WITH TECHNOLOGY CONCEIVED AS ADDICTION. PART ONE: BEFORE THE DIFFUSION OF THE SMARTPHONE.
ABSTRACT
This article aims to characterize, in an exploratory and critical manner, the way in which the viewpoint from which the notion and research on technology addiction emerge was shaped between 1980 and 2010. We seek to identify the key questions that have driven research on the subject, the theoretical models and types of research designs that have been implemented, the advancements made in knowledge, and the obstacles or limitations that have arisen in the process, among other aspects. The complexity of the issue calls for an interdisciplinary approach. In this case, the center of knowledge production is located within the fields of psychology and psychiatry. We proceed from the conviction that an approach focused on understanding subjective experience within the framework of sociocultural processes of engagement with technology is enriched through dialogue with these other fields, which have produced the initial hypotheses. The work is based on a review of literature and research that make up an intentional corpus.
