The article proposes a reflection on the economic knowledge in Argentina during the second half of the twentieth century. Addressing its relationswith politics and with the rest of the social sciences, shows the various interrelationships that economic science had with these areas in the development, dependency and neo-liberal discourses. It points a deterioration of the heterodox views on a par with the transformations in the recent Argentine society, showing the emergence of what he calls a ‘‘commitmentless individualism’’. Finally, it focuses on the impact of technicaladministrative
knowledge in the academic field, and then point out the centrality of economic
science in its political and historical inscriptions, as a hub of research necessary critical, creative and committed to the public sphere.
